In the Buy This & Not That Series, we share an informative list of what you should be buying in November and what you should be holding off until another time so you can be a smart shopper. November is a big month for buying with Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales. The Buy This & Not That list highlights major holiday sales and national days when you can score the best deals plus a list of the current produce that is in season. By following the monthly retail trends, you will be able to take advantage of all the sweet deals when it comes to shopping and keeping more money in your pocket.
In today’s economy, we all need to be smart shoppers. Whether purchasing clothing, furniture, food, or other things we want, when it comes to planned purchases knowing the right time to buy is key to shopping smarter and saving money. Now check out what you should be buying in November.
Buy This
- Oprah’s Favorite Things on Amazon. Celebrate small business by shopping Oprah’s Favorite Things.
- Baking Supplies, Bakeware, Cookware. All things for the holiday baking season will be on sale. This is the time to stock up!
- TVs and Other Electronics. With the Early Black Friday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, there will be deep discounts on big ticket items. Besides TV’s, expect to see deals on Laptops, Computers, Tablets, Printers, and more.
- Appliances. Watch for some of the best prices on fall appliances. Pick-up large appliances like refrigerators, washers and dryers, and also small appliances like vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters, microwaves, food processors, coffee makers and air fryers.
- Cell Phones and Smartwatches. Many deals will be found
- Tools and Home Improvement gear. You will find all kinds of deals on hand tools and power tools.
- Travel. We’ll see what this year brings us in travel deals. It’s worth keeping an eye on as you could snag a deal in the off-season.
Don’t Buy That
- Bedding, Linens, Christmas decorations. Deals on bedding and Linens will be in January so if you can hold off until then, you will get a much better deal. Same for Christmas decorations. It is best to pick these up in December closer to Christmas or the day after on the clearance sales.

Nov 11: Veteran’s Day
Many military-specific discounts are given at retailers and restaurants so salute our heroes. There are still plenty of patriotic promotions extended to everyday shoppers as this will make for an extended weekend of sales. Look for the first “Super Saturday” sale as there will be sales on toys, clothing, and potentially some early holiday electronics sales.
Nov 16: National Fast Food Day
Scope out deals at all the major fast-food joints. Check out McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby’s, Sonic and others.
Nov 24: Black Friday
Need we say more! This is when you want to pounce on all the best savings. All the retailers like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s will be running crazy specials for those that love the thrill of shopping with the roar of the crowd, but trust us, there will be online deals galore where you can shop from the comfort of your pj’s. Deals will extend through the weekend and take you right into Cyber Monday.

It’s the perfect opportunity to support local entrepreneurs and find unique, quality items while contributing to the vitality of your community. Choose to shop small this November and be a part of the movement that celebrates and uplifts the heart of your local economy.
Nov 27: Cyber Monday
Retailers have been dropping deals early this entire fall season so stay alert the whole month of November for online promotions that will continue and lead right up to the Cyber Monday event.
